Sprint Planning
Sprint Planning starts the Sprint by defining why the Sprint matters, what can be done, and how the work will be approached.
Plain English explanation
Sprint Planning is where the Scrum Team decides the direction of the Sprint. It turns possible work into a clear Sprint Goal and plan.
What it means
Sprint Planning answers three questions: why is this Sprint valuable, what can be done, and how will the selected work get completed?
Why it matters
Good planning gives the Sprint a clear purpose. Without it, the team may only collect tasks instead of working toward a meaningful goal.
How it works
The Product Owner ensures the team understands the most important Product Backlog items. The whole Scrum Team then defines a Sprint Goal, selects work, and creates an initial plan.
Key idea
Sprint Planning is not about filling capacity. It is about creating a useful Sprint Goal.
Key points
- Starts the Sprint
- Creates the Sprint Goal
- Selects Product Backlog items
- Produces the Sprint Backlog
